Environmental policy


Chairman's statement:

"We increasingly recognise the need to develop robust systems to evaluateand manage our wider business impact on the environment. If we are to maintain and build a sustainable community then leading organisations must be seen to take up the challenge and encourage others to follow. We are prepared to take on this role. The Exchange has always taken its environmental responsibilities seriously and we have already put in place many environmental initiatives.

Our Commitment

  • Promote environmentally sustainable working practices across the Group.
  • Ensure that responsibilities for environmental management are recognised and accepted.
  • Require appropriate arrangements to be made by each Group company and business division to ensure that, where possible, actions are taken to reduce LSEG’s impact on the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • LSEG Board: where required approves and supports environmental strategies and objectives as proposed by the Executive Committee.
  • Executive Committee: is accountable for the Group’s environmental policy. The coordination of environmental initiatives and activities will be owned on the Committee’s behalf by the Group Property Department.
  • Operating Committee: is responsible for ensuring that key strategic and operational decisions in their area take into account environmental considerations, support environmental initiatives and ensure that their area complies with this policy.
  • CSR Committee: will participate in ongoing review, co-ordination and implementation of an Environmental Action Plan as part of the Group’s wider CSR initiative.
  • Employees: are responsible for undertaking their work in a way that limits any negative environmental impact and identifying improvements in working practices.

Environmental Management

The London Stock Exchange Group commits to the following actions as a minimum:

Environmental Impacts

  • We will seek to reduce the environmental impact of energy, waste, water and travel relating to our Group activities and those of our contractors and suppliers.  We will monitor our activities to ensure their impacts are identified and acted upon where appropriate.
  • We will operate all the Group’s products and services in a way that takes into account their environmental impact and reduces it where appropriate.
  • The Group will incorporate environmental considerations into procurement decisions and raise awareness/influence our supply chain to facilitate a reduction in their environmental impact.

Environmental Risks

  • Environmental risk will be considered in the management of all risks throughout the business.  We will comply with environmental legislation.

Communication

  • We will conduct regular internal reviews and report on our key environmental impacts.  We will report annually on our progress within the Group Annual Report.
  • We will engage all Group employees with awareness programmes, provide support to help them reduce the environmental impact of their activities and encourage them to communicate suggestions for improvement.
